If someone ever tells you that your business idea or invention is too stupid or goofy to ever make any money, you should shake their hand. Because they probably just made you rich. Never abandon any of your hopes or dreams because some clueless guy at your work (who’s probably poor) who might take home $30,000 on a good year, tells you that your idea is stupid.
The name Carlton Calvin might not ring a bell with most of you. Carlton was an attorney who was miserable with his job. He came up with the idea for a scorpion Slammer. A Slammer is a little plactic disk that’s used in the fad game known as “Pog” during the 1990’s. Yes, a little game piece with a scorpion in it. Sounds stupid? Yes. Make you rich? YES!
Carlton took his scorpion Slammer to a game trade show and was quickly approached by a buyer who offered to purchase 300,000 of the scorpion slammers at $2.00 each if he promised not to sell them to anyone else. Carlton Calvin made $600,000 in a matter of minutes.
How much money is the guy in the cubicle next to you making? I doubt they will make $600,000 in the next six years, let alone in the next six months.
Carlton eventually sold about 400,000 more of the scorpion Slammers before the Pog fad died a quick death. Not too stupid now!
Carton also went on and sold truckloads of “Finger Boards”. They were the micros sized skateboards that you control with your fingers. Perhaps you have heard of them?
Last but not least, Razor Scooters. Carlton has made a fortune on those also. He did not invent them, but he became the sold U.S. distributor after noticing the potential for them in the United States. Over 4,000,000 Razor Scooters have now been sold.
Carton Calvin has taken the goofy and the stupid, and got very rich from it. He was not afraid of what people would think or say. That’s why he’s rich.
