Whenever we hear people say there’s no way to make money, I tell them that’s total hogwash. There’s all kinds of ways. Here’s a good article from Wired Magazine discussing fall and rise of Brock Pierce.
Basically what the article says is that Brock was the CEO of a dot com back in the day. Brock was 19 year old, making $250K a year as CEO, and living the life most dream of. Then it came crashing down.
Piece got the idea to sell virtual items such as swords, weapons, virtual money, etc in games such as World of Warcraft and Everquest while he was on a gaming binge mouring the collapse of his dot com company.
In a nutshell, he sells vitual weapons for actual cash to die hard gamers who are too lazy to play the game long enough to obtain the weapons in the actual game. Obviously Brock can’t play the game enough to make it profitable. So what to do? How about hire a few hundred poor people in China to play the game for you and obtain the virtual items. Then Brock buys the items from them and resells them at a virtual store. Brilliant….
