I have seen a few blogs get sold in the past, and seen quite a few for sale recently. I can’t understand why someone would buy a blog from someone else. Blogs are an extension of the owners personality. The readers come to the blogs for a certain flair of entertainment and information that is unique to the owner. This is what makes each blog different. Selling a blog is pretty much the nail in the coffin for a blog. When you sell the blog, the blog loses it’s soul. It still has the same name, but the blog and it’s content will never be the same. If the new owner can’t make a seamless transition to point where the readers don’t notice, the blog is toast.
A recent example is Mom’s Cash Blog which just sold.
The former owner was this fine ass cougar named Krysti. She seemed to have some idea of what she was doing, and she’s smoking hot on top of that. She exploited that to get readers, and it worked. I GUARANTEE most of the guys were going to her blog just because she was hot. So she has her blog and milks it for everything it’s worth. There’s about 10,000 ads on the blog to the point where it’s annoying. My guess is she hit a plateau in readership and ran out of places to put ads, and decided to flip it to a sucker for a quick dollar.
So along comes this sucker named JJ and buys Moms Cash Blog. This poor lady got ripped on the purchase. Poor JJ makes her first post. The post is FILLED with spelling errors, bad grammar and horrible punctuation. I’m not talking a few typos here and there, I do that myself and have no room to talk. I’m mean this person must have about a 5th grade education.
Look at this. It’s almost one giant paragraph. This is nuts. The readers have to go from watching a hottie on video, to spell checking 3,000 word paragraphs for the owner now.
This is like going to see Pink Floyd in concert, only to have a cover band show up and play instead. And the cover band can’t remember all the lyrics on top of that.
To make matters worse, JJ’s “readers” are already complaining. This is THE VERY FIRST comment she received…

And another…
Let’s face it. When your readers are telling you how to run your blog and have to point out so many errors that they complain, you’re toast! On top of all this, JJ admitted that she does not even know how to use Wordpress or write in a blog.
Here’s her About page, it’s left empty. It says “A little about me….” and then there’s NOTHING. This blog is toast. How is someone who can’t even operate a blog supposed to teach bored mom’s how to make money online. This is the blind leading the blind.
People, the lesson here is don’t buy a blog. It loses it’s soul, and you’re going to lose lots of readers. Nobody wants to see a cover band when they expect to see the real deal. You’re going to end up with almost no visitors either way, you might as well start with a following who are expecting to read articles from YOU. And on top of that, it’s a whole lot cheaper.

I think that the lesson is to make sure that you don’t deviate too much from the current blog when you purchase a blog. Purchasing a successful site can immediately give you leverage to launch other projects. If you use the blog you have purchased correctly it could work. If the person that purchased the blog used correct spelling and a shorter post and did something interesting, it could have been a nice first post. It wasn’t. Let’s face it - a bad blogger is just a bad blogger - whether it’s a new blog or an established blog. Writing well is an art and, as we can see, everyone isn’t an artist.
Purchasing blogs is still a viable way to establish yourself online.

Sadly, I agree with your entire post. It’s like the guy who paid $5000 for a blog a few weeks ago and made a video on youtube stating that he didn’t know what the hell he was doing. I enjoyed going to momscashblog mainly because Kristi knew how to market it. I don’t feel sorry for the new owner JJ at all.
Would a real entrepreneur buy a business they had no clue about. Why purchase a “make money” blog when you freely admit to “only making 17 cents online in about six months”. I really didn’t want to be negative on her blog, but I wans’t going to stroke her ego and tell her that she made a good purchase either. JJ was duped, and Kristi got over on her!

You must be talking about the idiot from One Mans Goal. He did not pay $5,000. He paid $10,000. He paid $10,000 for a blog that only has 175 visits a day, and makes NO MONEY AT ALL. And he also bought that crap web page relaxationtips.org. Yes, he actually paid someone money for that piece of garbage. He could of made it himself in 10 minutes for free.
As far as JJ, she got schooled. Kristi was hot and made fun video posts. That’s why people went there. Then JJ buys it, and decides to make her first post after a getting home from the bar or whatever the hell her problem is. But I don’t see any reason people would still go there. I hope she did not pay a lot.

JJ is a total failure. One post on some drunken ramble. The other is about a $10 coupon. The funny part is her link sends people to Technorati, when that’s not even where the coupon is.
Hey Moms Cash Blog users….
Here’s the link to the coupon. I don’t know why JJ was sending you on a wild goose chase to Technorati. Get it in your head. SHE DOES NOT KNOW WHAT SHE’S DOING
COUPON!

Pretty lame site you got here. Why hav WEALTH in your domain name if you having nothing about wealth and how to get rich? I find 2 posts bashing women: one happy that a girl lost her blog (and touting your “investigative skills” because you found that out? Wow), the other bashing another site, then a paragraph on buying Visa. Ohh, big tip. I stopped reading after that. I’m one very disappointed reader. I expected a professional but all I got was THIS crap.

LOL…nice try troll. If you come back here again, you’re going to get your lunch handed to you. Go ask JJ why she has “cash” in her domain name, when she makes none.
