Is Entrecard Infested With Nigerian Scammers?

April 23, ‘08

As the traffic to my blog has increased, so has my attention to where the traffic has come from. Now that I finally show up on the Alexa radar, I noticed something pretty interesting.

1) According to my Awstats, a large amount of traffic is coming from a questionable source. I always wondered where it was coming from. I know that a large percentage of my traffic comes from Entrecard. Hmmmm…

awstats.gif

Then I looked at my Alexa stats. It looks like most of my traffic is coming from….NIGERIA??

Knowing that most of my traffic comes from Entrecard, I did some digging around on other bloggers who also have money making blogs and use Entrecard.

Here’s Ty’s Blog of Ty’s Blog. Same thing….tons of Nigerian traffic.

And another from http://www.1manandhisblog.com/. SAME THING……NIGERIANS!!!!!

This can only mean two things.

1) Nigeria now has some of the best internet access in the world.

OR

2) Entrecard is infested with Nigerian scammers.

We all have one thing in common. We’re all using Entrecard. Think about it…

  2. Hmmm,

Now you have me wondering. This does not seem to be the case on either of my blogs. Maybe it’s because you are in the MMO niche?

  4. I find it odd that this posting is getting bombed with comment spam selling life insurance. I have never seen this much comment spam in my comment box before.

Maybe the Nigerians are not scammers, but spammers? There’s no doubt they are up to to something. They obviously love my blog, and other money making blogs too.

  8. I never heard of nigerian being the spammer but scammer yes. If you have some time try register with oil and gas industry for job, you will get lots of so called job offer from questionable company based in nigeria. They also sent e-mail like to transfer money into your account or something like that. One girl in Malaysia fell for the job scamm from nigeria and she will most probably will end up be shot to dead in China for drugs trafficking. She was promised a job and the interview will be in china however she need to stop by in thailand to pick up some document for the office in china of which the document turned out to be drug inside it. So be careful with this nigerian things. anyway i am not saying nigerian are all scammer. most of them are really nice. what i mean is regarding online money making like website and blog.

  10. I’m not really sure about the Nigerian stats I have. I too thought something was up seeing as how my rank in Nigeria was so high, but haven’t really seen an indication that they’re scamming in anyway. I do know Nigerians are famous for doing check scams (i.e. send you a check to buy something for more than it’s worth and ask for the difference to be sent back), but don’t see how that relates to them being the world’s biggest blog fans… hmm…

On a side note, it’s actually a coincidence that I found this post today. I saw your comment on the guest post I did on JohnCow.com, clicked through, and what another coincidence that I have an Entrecard ad running on your blog today… Small world, huh?

Great blog BTW - keep it up!

  12. While I don’t think that these Nigerians can really do any harm when everything is free, I’m EXTREMELY curious why they seem to have a taste for our blogs. They LOVE mine. The only thing I can think of is they are raking up ECs and selling them.

Get something really nasty about them especially their scamming activity and your blog will be flooded with millions of nigerians coming in. I am sure some out of the million will click your ads. 24. Nigeria and Alexa, something is wrong or something is wrong. It is really a country with a population approaching 150 million. They are aggresive and witty. they are also very hardworking (in all endeavours). Some Nigerians have scammed millions from greedy westerners that believe there is money to be looted from Africa.
The internet density there is increasing, but still expensive for the average Nigerian. the corruption is on a downward trend and more people are able to afford basic things of life. The country’s internet highway is still very rudimentary. The stats are either dead wrong, or some things are about to change. Do not antagonize a potential cash cow. If you are greedy, scam artists may get you. If you really want to stereotype these people, go ahead but rest assured it will haunt you. Be open and carry on with your flourishing business. Spammers have made the web unhabitable. Now your tone is as if to say the Nigerians invented spamming!
To shock you the more, I am Nigerian and I have an ad running on your blog at the moment. I have not scammed you to the best of my knowledge. I just read about Lisa T here. Is she operating from Nigeria? No. Some scam in Asia and one of your guests has decided it was by Nigerians. Until people face facts, stereotyping will continue to drag this planet back.

  26. Lighten up Francis. It was a joke. Nigerians are scammers, Mexicans all eat burritos, the French chain smoke cigarettes, and all Americans are fat and live on cheeseburgers.

  28. Alexa’s ranks are screwed.

    Check my post out here..

Oh and I see McNeri’s here preaching about his Nigerian thing too… I don’t know why he’s so hung up on them.

  32. African traffic is welcome on my blogs as I seldom see it. Are they scammers? Only if they try to sell me something that they don’t actually own. Like, access to a rich uncle’s $6.4 million wealth!

  34. No they are not scammers. They are pretty cool. Especially the Oil Defense Minister. He keeps sending me emails and trying to give me $25,000,000.

  36. Have you investigated make money bloggers NOT on Entrecard??? This would be the only way to come to the conclusions you have.

I’m on Entrecard and this has not been the case on my blogs either (that I’ve noticed so far).

  38. No, I have not done any further investigation. I’m not too worried about it. I just thought it was odd and wanted to point it out.
